MARLBOROUGH TRAMPING CLUB INC
Hodder Huts Access Information
It is important that all intending visitors to the huts read the following thoroughly:
There is no "booking system" in place for using the MTC’s Hodder Huts, but you are required to obtain an Access Number for permission to use the huts facilities.
This does not guarantee space in the huts but does acknowledge that you are intending to visit on the dates advised and enables us to keep in touch with everyone who uses the facilities; huts, toilets, water etc
Do not not ot leave it until the last minute to apply for your access number. Our administrators are volunteers - please allow at the very least 48 hours for us to reply before your departure from home.
MTC Huts admin team are currently experiencing difficulty with some applicants not paying their hut fees or not notifying cancelled trips
Thank you for your co-operation.
Note: Weather permitting the Huts will be closed for maintenance from 10th to 14th February 2025. Tenting option available
Firstly, apply for an Access Number by emailing hodderhuts@gmail.com and provide the following:
Name - Address - Phone/mobile no -
Names of people in your party -
Dates of trip -
Number of nights staying at the huts -
Rego No and make of your vehicle that will be parked at Gladstone Downs (Important info required in the unlikely event of needing to call in SAR)
Please also advise if you will be carrying a PLB.
The numbered access form will be emailed back to you as soon as possible and your number should be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle. When you receive your access number please read the document thoroughly.
Secondly, contact the landowners Bev and Allan Pitts of Gladstone Downs (03 575 7471) to obtain permission for access across their land. Quote your Huts Access number and also advise them of any changes to Rego details of the vehicle that you will leave in the parking area so they can check that parties have safely returned from the mountain.
Important Notes re weather and river conditions, numbers, tenting etc
The Pitts family, the landowners, are the best people to give advice re local weather and river conditions, numbers and whether or not you should carry tents. Sizes of parties, experience are all part of the decision.
Take note: This is not a marked route and you need reasonable navigation skills. Some cairns noted in the guide may not be still in place after heavy rains etc. Map is BS27 Tapuae-o-Uenuku
